A hand printed linocut print inspired by and created on the Isle of Islay off the west coast of Scotland.
This print is presented either as stand alone on A5 paper (printed area 150x100) or in an ivory/white mount measuring 10x8 inches. Please note the oak frame is not included.
Tormentil
With their bright yellow flowers forming a Maltese cross from above, Tormentil is abundant here on the Oa, Islay. It grows amongst other vegetation in acidic soils on the moorland and has a multitude of traditional medicinal uses including smallpox, cholera and dysentery.
This Tormentil design was sketched on The Oa in June 2020 high on a hill close to our home on Islay. After sketching we then transfer the design to Lino before carving with a fine tool. Every picture is hand printed and therefore unique. We use vegetable oil-based inks and 300gsm Snowden Paper.
