A hand printed linocut print inspired by and created on the Isle of Islay off the west coast of Scotland.
This print is presented either as stand alone on A5 paper (printed area 150x100) or in an ivory/white mount measuring 7x9 inches. Please note the oak frame is not included.
Spear Thistle (Cirsium vulgare)
Thistles are an important national emblem in Scotland - the highest state honour that can be awarded is The Order of the Thistle. This iconic species, the Spear Thistle is abundant here on The Oa, Islay. Found on disturbed ground its seeds are enjoyed by Goldfinches.
We sketched this thistle outside our house one sunny day in July 2020. After sketching we then transfer the design to Lino before carving with a fine tool. Every picture is hand printed and therefore unique. We use vegetable oil-based inks and 300gsm Snowden Paper.
